The region of Ubatuba, northern coast of São Paulo, has the largest diversity of birds in Brazil. You can often see them while walking in the Atlantic Forest. Rare birds with amazing colors, curious behaviors and gorgeous singings. In this scenery Itamambuca Eco Resort, located in Ubatuba, decided to invest in an ecological project called "Birds of Itamambuca Eco Resort" looking for the preservation of local bird life through the dissemination of such diversity. There have been photographed and cataloged over 200 species of birds using the Eco Resort, which means more than 20 species per hectare, a figure which, according to the academic literature, is very relevant and very few places in the world reach that mark. And best of all is the ease of observation, often without the need of using binoculars or other equipment.

The photographic collection organized by Itamambuca Eco Resort can be seen by guests and visitors in the identification panels installed at various locations of the resort, containing photos and information from various birds, such as name, size, eating habits, if it is easy to observe and other curiosities. The panels are installed at strategic points in the resort, drawing the attention of guests and visitors. Most of them can be seen on the route of the Trail of Guaiamuns, a trail of approximately 400 meters long, built with wood from eucalyptus reforestation. The trail head is in the Tangará Eco Leisure Space - near the resort reception - ending in Rio Itamambuca, where there is a gazebo.

Many of these birds have been photographed (tiriba, striped-hummingbirds, yellow-belly-large-trogon, black-beak-toucan, yellow-head-woodpecker, blood-tiê, junkyard, seven-colors-saíra, scarf-saíra, blue-saí) accented with exotic colors and ease of observation. The blood-tiê bird, for example, intense red; or seven-colors-saíra, with its exuberant mix of shades are a great attraction of the place.

The greatest surprise of all birds is the black-back-apuim (Touit melanonotus), extremely rare and endangered. This little parrot made an incredible visit to the office of Eco Resort, providing the only known photos of this species in the world.

According to the most current survey, coordinated by Carlos Rizzo, an expert on birds of Ubatuba, you can see over 500 different bird species in the region, among more than 1,700 species cognizable in Brazil. For this reason, Ubatuba annually hosts a picturesque meeting, the Ubatuba Birds, an event that brings together birders from around the world to a great birdwatching festival in this region.

The Itamambuca Eco Resort, for its privileged location, is one of the great hostesses of this meeting - which is usually held in October -providing to the visitors the opportunity to observe birds in their most diverse ecosystems such as mangroves, aquatic environments, dense and open forest, attracting tourists for the diversity and color.

There are so much green around that it does not seem that it is next to the beach - to arrive there is necessary to walk through a footpath that crosses the hotel sandbank area, replete of different kinds of crabs. 4 Rodas Guide
